puzzledict Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 30, 2026
puzzledict ("we", "the extension") is a browser extension that helps you
look up English words and translations on web pages. This policy describes
what data the extension handles and why.
Data we process
-
Text you select — When you explicitly select text and
trigger a lookup or translation, that text is sent to our servers to
provide the service. We do not read or collect full page content or your
browsing history.
-
Anonymous client ID — A random UUID stored locally in
your browser and sent with API requests for rate limiting and abuse
prevention. It is not linked to your identity.
-
Local cache — Lookup and translation results may be
cached in
chrome.storage.local (dictionary cache: up to 7
days; translation cache: up to 3 days) to improve performance.
Data we do not collect
- No account registration
- No email or payment information
- No analytics or advertising trackers in the extension
Third-party services
Selected text may be processed by:
- Our dictionary API at
dict.joeyzcode.com
-
Our translation gateway at
translate.joeyzcode.com, which
may call third-party translation providers (e.g. Youdao) when needed
Dictionary and word-root data include third-party sources documented in
our
Third-Party Notices.
How we use data
Data is used solely to provide dictionary lookup and translation features,
cache results locally, and prevent API abuse. We do not sell your data.
Data retention
- Local cache expires automatically per the TTL above.
- Uninstalling the extension removes locally stored data.
-
Server-side data is processed transiently for request handling and rate
limiting; we do not build user profiles.
Permissions
- storage — store client ID and cache
-
host permissions — communicate with our APIs only
-
content script on all pages — detect text you select;
no automatic data collection
Children
The extension is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
We may update this policy. The "Last updated" date will reflect changes.
